Why We Need To Work Out In Winter
We get it, It can be hard to exercise in Winter. The cooler weather brings illness, the blues and hibernation. Yet, exercise provides the body with everything it needs to negate these winter blues.
We get it, It can be hard to exercise in Winter. The cooler weather brings illness, the blues and hibernation. Yet, exercise provides the body with everything it needs to negate these winter blues.
Here are a few reasons why we need to exercise in winter.
Keep warm and increase circulation
Heat up your body naturally this winter with a workout! The rise in your body temperature during a workout has a soothing, calming effect on your body, not unlike a long soak in a warm bath or lying in front of the heater. Plus, we all know well that after 2-3 tracks at the barre you'll be stripping down into a singlet!
Exercise increases circulation in the body, helping to better transports oxygen and nutrients to the brain, skin, and vital organs in the body. Improving and maintaining blood circulation builds a strong heart muscle and also improves the efficiency of your body, ensuring that both the arms and legs receive oxygen and other vital nutrients.
Stay Healthy
Research has shown time and again that regular exercise strengthens your immune system so it can fight off bacterial and viral infections. This becomes particularly important in winter when colds and flu rear their ugly heads.
When you exercise and get your blood pumping, immune cells circulate through your body more quickly helping them seek and destroy infections. But this boost only lasts for a few hours, so exercise needs to be regular for long-term effects.
Stay Happy
Winter blues are common phenomena, but there are easy solutions. Exercise makes us feel good — it's that simple.
After exercise, the brain releases “feel-good” chemicals serotonin and dopamine which can help to reduce anxiety and depression while boosting wellbeing and more simply, it is a welcomed break from your daily grind! Get off of your computer, get off of the couch and get moving. We see those sneaky post-barre class smiles, so you cannot deny this one.
The shortest day has been and gone, so it can only get better from here, right? Get yourself organised. Book in for your weekly barre classes in advance, and stick to them. It's warm here in the studio and you know you will leave feeling all the better for it.
See you at the barre!
