 class is a great place to start if you’re new to barre workouts. In Beginner's Barre, our teachers take the time to break down each movement and the technique required to execute the movements safely and effectively. We always recommend people to try Beginner's Barre first, as it's a great foundation class.

 is also a lovely class to attend when you’re new, as the classes move slowly and mindfully, with an equal focus on mobility.

 is also very beginner friendly. Whatever your level, our teachers will ensure you feel confident and safe to stretch within your limits.

If you’re new, but really love a strong workout, all of our classes welcome newcomers. Classes are simple to follow, and the more you attend, the more you learn. Come as you are.

Our members are hugely diverse. You can expect men and women ranging from 20-75. Because we offer different class types, you can also choose to exercise in a way that best suits your age and stage. We strive to offer options for all – whether you’re recently postpartum, coming back from an injury, or are new to exercise. All are welcome!

. You will have to create an account with our booking system, but it’s very easy to use. You can only book classes 14 days in advance. If you have any issues with bookings, please get in touch.

We always suggest newcomers purchase the First Timer’s Deal. This is $65 for 4-weeks of unlimited classes, which allows you to really get a feel for the space, our teachers and all of the classes we offer. This must be purchased upon your first visit.

The Barre Base studio is located at 7 Crawford Street, in the Victoria Chambers building on the Dunedin one-way system. This is just opposite Consultancy House. Walk up the first flight of stairs, and our studio will be the first space you see. There are plenty of places to park around the studio.

Doors open 15 minutes before your class starts. If you’re new, it’s important to be on time so that we can show you around our space and settle you in. Please come up to the desk and introduce yourself, and our team will happily show you around. For security purposes, the building doors will automatically unlock 15 minutes before your session, and lock once the class starts. If you’re late, you won’t be able to get inside the building for your session. Therefore, please ensure you’re on time.

Anything comfortable! Members wear fitness leggings or track pants – whatever allows them to move freely and confidently. No footwear is permitted, but feel free to wear Pilates grippy socks, or just enjoy being barefoot.

If you own a yoga mat, please bring one. If not, you can borrow our studio mats. Sweat towels and water bottles are also encouraged.

Please remove your shoes outside, and carry them into the changing rooms.

Phones must be on silent, and we ask you to keep these in the changing room. Our yoga mats are a phone-free zone.

All belongings to be kept in the changing room. Water bottles only on the mat.

We encourage conversation before and after classes. It’s lovely to get to know those around you. However, once the class starts, we ask that you keep conversation to a minimum. Our classes offer you the chance to really tune into your body, so conversing with friends is discouraged throughout the class.

If you think you’d benefit from a private session before attending classes, then we do offer these. 1:1 classes are $75 for 45 minutes, or $90 for an hour session. Small group classes are also available.

You can cancel any class 8+ hours before its start time. You can do this via Punchpass, or there is a cancel class button at the bottom of each class reminder email. If you cancel within this window, you will be charged $15. We are flexible wherever we can be and are always understanding in an emergency.
