Introducing our health blogger, Gabby Palmer

We know you all love being inspired in the kitchen, so we've jumped on board with Barre Base Member and foodie-lover Gabby Palmer who will regularly share recipes and tricks from her student kitchen! Gabby's view on food and nutrition is hugely in line with our beliefs here at Barre Base, so we're extremely proud that we can spread her good word to you all. Keep yours eyes peeled for her amazing recipes.

Here is a little more about Gabby Palmer.

My name is Gabby Palmer and I’m a born and bred Hawkes Bay girl. I love the sea and the sun.

Alongside a great love for the outdoors I have a huge passion for food — more specifically nutritious, whole foods that nourish and energise our bodies.

I am in my second year studying BSc in Human Nutrition at Otago University. I’m interested in learning about the inner workings of the body in response to food. My greatest influences in this field have been Dr Libby Weaver and Nadia Lim and also chef, Jamie Oliver. My goal is to help people improve their health through consuming more nutritious food and less of the processed ‘food products’ that fill our supermarket shelves today. I believe it is important for us all to learn to eat more mindfully from a place of love rather than fear and that we should use our energy levels as a tool for good health rather than the way our body physically looks.

In my spare time, you’ll find me in the kitchen. It’s my happy place. I’m always creating new recipes and experimenting with different foods. Oh, and not to mention I love eating it the most!! I don’t believe that ‘healthy’ cooking is or needs to be expensive so many of my recipes that I will be sharing are aimed at students or families on a budget. In fact, I spent a whole year in a hall of residence creating meals with solely a rice cooker! So I know how to get creative.
