Why we love Inline Nutrition Protein

Although we're big believers in finding the appropriate fuel through real food, sometimes we do need to supplement. When we do need to add more protein to our diet, or we're in a rush and want to fuel ourselves with something healthy, Inline Nutrition protein is our go to!

Protein and Vitamin D

Inline Nutrition protein supplements are locally owned and operated (bonus), but they also include Vitamin D. The inclusion of Vitamin D is a huge factor in why we choose to use this protein powder over other brands.

It’s not something we think about combining with whey protein, but vitamin D could really help you reach your goals with your strength training! Vitamin D is better known as a supplement to support healthy mood function and bone strength, however, Vitamin D is hugely beneficial when used in conjunction with whey protein.

A randomised controlled trial published in the American Journal of Nutrition looked into the effects of whey protein, vitamin D and leucine supplementation in obese individuals. Although the three components were not looked at for their effects as individuals, together they showed that muscle mass was maintained when body fat was lost. This study’s results can be used to support Inline’s Lean Protein blend, and that it is perfect for those with the goal of decreasing body fat, without losing muscle mass. We all want to keep up that strength for our pliés, right?

Protein helps us stay satisfied for longer, and is especially important for muscle synthesis after strength training. Therefore, the addition of vitamin D is superb for those wanting to create that lean muscle. Whey protein contains Leucine, a branched chain amino acid. This amino acid is best for stimulating muscle protein synthesis, making whey isolate the right protein type to choose. The combination of whey and vitamin D is especially important as often when weight is lost, muscle mass is lost too. So using a protein powder that not only stimulates muscle synthesis, but also maintains and preserves muscle mass, is key.

Why else should we supplement with Vitamin D?

Vitamin D can be absorbed through the sun (making sure we stay sun safe while doing so!) but food sources also supply a dose. Think fatty fish, eggs, liver and milk products. Supplements are your next step if levels can’t be met through your diet, but be sure to consult your health professional before doing so. Vitamin D maintains healthy bone function and strength, mood function and as mentioned above, has proved helpful in maintaining muscle mass when paired with whey protein. The recommended daily intake for New Zealand adults ranges from 5-15 micrograms, and increases with age. The Inline Lean Whey Protein supplies 5 micrograms of vitamin D per serve alongside 20 grams of protein.
